History & Background
Killarney Provincial Park was established in 1964, thanks in part to the efforts of Group of Seven artist A.Y. Jackson, who advocated for its protection. The park's name derives from the nearby town of Killarney, which was named after the famous Killarney Lakes in Ireland. The area's unique geology, including the white quartzite La Cloche Mountains, and its rich biodiversity have made it a cherished destination for conservation and recreation. Over the years, the park has grown to encompass over 645 square kilometers of protected wilderness.
