History & Background

The Jardins do Palácio de Cristal were designed in the 19th century by German landscape architect Émile David, surrounding the original Crystal Palace built for the 1865 International Exhibition. The palace was demolished in 1951 and replaced by the Rosa Mota Pavilion. The gardens, however, retained their romantic and eclectic design, blending formal French-style gardens with English-style landscapes. Today, they remain a beloved green space in Porto, offering a glimpse into the city's historical and cultural heritage.
