History & Background
Freycinet National Park, established in 1916, is one of Tasmania's oldest national parks. The area has been home to the Oyster Bay Aboriginal people for thousands of years, with evidence of their presence in shell middens along the coast. The park's name honors French explorer Louis de Freycinet, who charted the area in the early 19th century.
