History

The SS Keno was built in 1922 and served as a vital cargo and passenger vessel on the Yukon River until 1951. It was one of the last sternwheelers to operate in the region, transporting silver, lead, and zinc ore from Mayo to Whitehorse. Designated a National Historic Site in 1962, the Keno represents the golden age of river transportation in the North and the challenges of moving goods and people through remote wilderness areas before roads were built.
